A Pool H match of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ Youth World Championship took place between Italy and Algeria on August 16 in Ankara, Turkey. The Italians won three sets in a row to gain a win.
The first set of the match was a quick job by the Italians as the Algerians did not put up any challenge to make the frame competitive. Algeria stepped up their game in the second set but the effort still was not enough to stop the Italy from securing an
easy win. The start of the third set saw some sparks fly as the two sides locked horns together but before long, the Italians were able to dominate the court and win the entire match at the following final set scores: 25-8, 25-16 and 25-18.
Luca Pieragnoli, the coach of the Italian team expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference after his team had won the match: "Our physical motivation was good. Algeria was good at reception but their attacking and defence was not good.
This situation is not the one we wanted to be in this championship. We were coming o play for the top 8 positions, but however we are going to play each match with strength and moral."
Whereas the Algerian coach, Karim Imedjdab, stated his feelings in the following words: "I congratulate Italy. When compared to the previous matches against Poland, Egypt and Turkey we were better at reception today, Italy is a strong and good team which
we shouldn't forget.”
Italy was able to take the lead early on at 8-3 in the first set of the match and they also extended their advantage to 16-7 till the second technical timeout. The Algerians could not keep up with the speed of the Italian attack and let the match go out
of their hands at 8-25.
The second reached a tie at 4-4 but Italy managed to take the lead at 8-6 when the first technical time out came. Italy did not let go of the advantage and still had the lead at the second technical time out at 16-10. As the gap in the scores of the two
te4ams increased, the Algerians fell to committing errors that cost them the second frame at 25-16.
The third set of the game started even but it was not long before the powerful attack of the Italians got them the advantage and they kept on increasing the pressure on the Algerians after that. Eventually, Italy sealed the deal on the third set of the game
at 25-18.
