Italy sweeps Korea in FIVB Women’s World Cup match - Volleyball
The FIVB Women’s World Cup is underway in Japan with the final round of the tournament done and the teams are now on their way to the next phase of the championship. One such match was played between Italy and Korea on November 11 in Sapporo. The Italian
team was playing its sixth match of the tournament and they ended it on a winning note after making a clean sweep over Korea.
The win has enabled Italy to remain at the top of the tournament so far. The first set of the match started off on even grounds but as the frame progressed, the Italians were able to dominate the courts and bag the opening set with a comfortable win. The
second set saw the morale of the Koreans dampen as they had trouble mastering their weaknesses and the Italians were able to smother the Koreans as a result. The third set saw some sparks flying from the Koreans but they only put a half hearted effort into
the performance the enabled the Italians to secure the frame and seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17.
The coach of the Italian team, Massimo Barbolini, made the following comments at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “Today I congratulate our team, as for us it was a good re-start against Korea. I think we played
well from beginning to end, in every set, for the entire match. This matters for the next match too, as we have to pay - in some way - the same attention, the same concentration.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Korean team, Kim Hyung-Sil shared his views in the following manner: “Today we did not play our combinations well. For serving and reception, players who were subbed out were usually in charge of that; that’s why we didn’t
succeed.”
The player that was able to score the most points in the entire match was Carolina del Pilar Costagrande of Italy, who scored a total of 19 points for her team. Costagrande was not the only player that kept the pressure on the Koreans, Lucia Bosetti also
helped in keeping the score board running by adding a total of 13 points of her own. On the other hand, the most active player on the Korean side was Park Jeong-Ah who made her presence felt by adding nine points to the score board. No other Korean player
was able to make any significant mark upon the match that remained the reason why the Koreans could not put up a good game.
