Italy sweeps Poland to reach the final of the Eurovolley 2011- Volleyball news
The Italians were able to beat the Polish squad in the semi-final of Eurovolley 2011 being held in Vienna, Austria on September 17. The saw the Italians dominate Poland in almost all aspects of the game which gave them a decisive win at the following final
set scores: 25-22, 25-21 and 25-20.
The attack of the Italians proved to be a challenge for the Polish side. The Italians hitters were relentless in their kills and gave Poland a hard time all through. Other than that, the reception from Poland was not up to the mark and unable to meet the
Italian hits coming their way.
The first set of the game saw the Italians take the lead at 4-2 but the Polish players did not let them get away with the advantage and caught up to tie the match at 4-4. By the time the first technical time out of the opening set was reached, Poland was
leading at 8-7. The Italians did not let go of the chase and got their dominance back at 16-14 as the second technical time out came. Poland was determined to make a first set win and kept it close all through. When the final stages of the frame were reached,
the score was close at 22-20, in favour of the Italians. The Italian coach called for a break before his team went back onto the courts to bag the first set of the game at 25-22.
The two teams came into the second set with renewed determination but despite the Polish efforts, the Italians still managed to get into a leading position at 10-6. The Italians seemed to slow down a bit as the match progressed which caused the Polish side
to catch up and come close at 12-10. Before long, Poland had come level with their rivals at 13-13. The Italians did not let the tie daunt them and managed to get the lead again at 17-15. They were able to stretch the margin to 22-18. The Polish tried to propel
themselves forwards but the defence of the Italians worked wonders and enabled Italy to grab another win at 25-21.
The Polish side was sent a much needed wakeup call by the loss of the first two sets of the game and they responded by stepping up their play in the third set. Poland managed to take the lead for themselves at 9-6 and kept the advantage with them for a while.
However, the Italians were in no mood to stay behind and with the coming of the second technical time out, took the lead at 16-14. After this point, there was no stopping the Italians from bagging the third set at 25-20.
