  1. Are you eligible for a United States Passport? If you are eligible for a Us Passport then you do not need a Visa to visit any of the Schengen countries of Europe. The European Union has a group of countries referred to as Schengen that do not have borders and are accessible by US Citizens without a Visa. If you are a resident of the Philippines and are not eligible for a United States passport you will need to apply for a Visa. This can be done at a local Italian consulate. It is good for travel to all Schengen countries. I've included a link to the website that I figured out if you will need one or not. After you enter the information it tells you the documents that you will need and also where the closest Italian Consulate is to your city. I do not know if you have to visit the consulate in person, and I would doubt that you do. Enjoy your visit to the most beautiful country on Earth, Italia!

  2. My husband got stationed here in Italy in October and I just got here about 2 monthes ago because the Italian Consulate does not return calls - ever.  Please allow yourself lots and lots of time to request a Visa.  My paperwork was in error several times and I've heard that my situation is the norm when trying to get a Visa form the d**n Italian consulate.

  3. Citizens of the following countries DO NOT require visas when visiting Schengen area countries for tourism, official or business stays of 90 days or less.

ANDORRA, ARGENTINA, AUSTRALIA, BOLIVIA, BRAZIL, BRUNEI, BULGARIA, CANADA, CHILE, COSTA RICA, CROATIA, CYPRUS, CZECH REPUBLIC, EL SALVADOR, ESTONIA, GUATEMALA, HONDURAS, HUNGARY, ISRAEL, JAPAN, LATVIA, LIECHTENSTEIN, LITHUANIA, MALAYSIA, MALTA, MEXICO, MONACO, NEW ZEALAND, NICARAGUA, PANAMA, PARAGUAY, POLAND, RUMANIA, SAN MARINO, SINGAPORE, SLOVAKIA, SLOVENIA, SOUTH KOREA, SWITZERLAND, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, URUGUAY, VATICAN CITY, VENEZUELA.

If you are a green card holder in the US and not a citizen of any of the above countries, you can apply for a Italy Visa in any of the italian consulates. Here is the link to the San Francisco consulate where I applied and got a tourist visa. You can mail in your application with your passports and you will get your passport stamped with the visa in about a week.

    Specific documents they need.

They give you only a visa for a month so you have to specify the dates you would travel, you have notorize copies of your bank statements, income statements, employment letter etc( the web site has details). You would also need to send ticket reservations (we send an expedia itinerary page, not a purchased ticket, and they did not mind).

    Hope this helps!
