i went to yoga class and she had these metal (looked like brass) L shaped handles that rotated freely when you held them. i forgot what they were called but when you rotated them, they could tell you how far your aura stopped when they stopped rotating. if anyone could help me tell what they are called or where i could find them it would be apprecieated. thanks!

  1. They are called "divining rods" and are just bent pieces of welding rod. Coat hangers will work just as well. If you want to waste your money, you can buy them online.

They work as a self-fulfilling prophecy does. You believe that it works and it does. Tell me, where is the scientific studies of auras? Did some yoga instructor just tell you they exist?

The same rods are also used for dowsing. That is finding water, metals, treasure etc.by walking around until the rods move.

What is it really? "We are witnessing here a very powerful psychological phenomenon known as the "ideomotor effect." This is defined as, "an involuntary body movement evoked by an idea or thought process rather than by sensory stimulation." The dowser is unknowingly moving the device of choice, exerting a small shaking, tilt or pressure to it, enough to disturb its state of balance. This has been shown any number of times to be true, but the demonstration has meant nothing to the dowsers"

Where dowsing has been subjected to scientific testing, the results are no better then random. There's a 1 million dollar prize for a successful demonstration, so perhaps your instructor should apply.

I know. "But this is different." etc, etc. A person in authority over you, and who has skills you don't, told you this is real. Why use critical thinking and cause an upset? My prediction is if you raise the issue, the information you bring will be dismissed and some remarks made about how people won't open their eyes to a larger world, etc, etc.

Cecil of "the Straight Dope" has the last word: "You've fallen victim to the classic Skeptical Young Guppy Becomes True Believer syndrome, described in great detail in a study of dowsing (as wishing is sometimes called) published by two University of Chicago researchers in 1959"

  2. Yes it's called bull----.  You can get them in any cow pasture.

  3. It's called magician's paraphenalia...

  4. Those are divining/dowsing rods. They can supposedly do a lot of things like follow the rotation of your chakras and find energetical laylines on the Earth. I found a site that tells you how to make them (just a wire coat hanger and some straws), so if you do make a pair you should look up other stuff they can do. I'm not sure if I believe but they sure are fun to play with!

I was in a class once and all my instructor had to do was ask which direction water was and they pointed!
