  1. Much too much

Some places are districts some other ones would request several days - Four nights ? => Five days ?

Combine Louvre and Tuileries - first day - enormous

Tour Eiffel  morning - Musée d'Orsay after noon - then dinner on bateau mouche if you cannot survive without bateaux -2nd

Reserve your table in the morning - ask what time boat back ?

Notre-Dame morning - Quartier Latin Sorbonne pm

    +Luxembourg +rest time- 3d

Marais morning + Pompidou and Halles district pm 4th

Galeries Lafayette ( you can survive without )morning + imporovise                                                                      5th  ???

Forget Père Lachaise  + Marmottan or keep for 5th

  2. I would suggest starting one morning at the Louvre, grab a bite to eat in the Louvre food court or across the street on Rue de Rivoli (some inexpensive souvenirs can be found on this street, too). After finishing exploring every nook and cranny of this magnificent museum, stroll through Tuileries Garden and up Champs Elysees toward the Arc de Triomphe. End your night with the bateaux-mouche cruise and the Eiffel Tower.

Another day, you can start off at the Musee d'Orsay, take the metro over to Notre-Dame Cathedral (the Conciergerie and Sainte-Chapelle are over there as well if you want to take a gander). Then, explore the Sorbonne and the Latin Quarter. Shakespeare and Company bookstore is to the right of Notre-Dame (as you're facing the cathedral). The Luxembourg Gardens is near the Latin Quarter as well. You may have time to explore the Marais...depends how long you hang out at these places.

A good place to explore in the evening (not sure what time you'll be arriving in Paris...you may just want to get settled in and explore your neighborhood) is Sacre-Coeur and Montmartre. There's a fabulous restaurant in Montmartre called "La Bonne Franquette." We usually go on a Saturday night and the entertainment is a lot of fun. People usually let their hair down here (must be the wine).

Another thing I would recommend is an introductory bus tour of Paris. Paris Vision and Cityrama both offer these tours during the day and at night. You can do just the bus tour or add a tour by Seine as well. Could be something fun to do your first night in town as well.

Another day, I would start out at Musee Marmottan (leave early because it may be difficult to find), then off to the Pompidou Center and finish off your day with some serious shopping at Galeries Lafayette. The Opera Garnier is not far from Galeries Lafayette so be sure to snap a few photos.

The final day, I'd hit up Pere-Lachaise Cemetery. Depending when your flight is, you may have time for some extra souvenir shopping. If you didn't have time before, you could always hit up the Marais today.

If you'd like an audio guide of some of the museums, as well as a few audio walks through Paris, check out Rick Steves' Europe Through the Back Door. Also has some great tips on this web site.

  3. While you list makes for a somewhat crowded schedule it is certainly something that can be done in the time you have.

It would be helpful, in creating a detailed itinerary, to know what day of the week you will arrive and at what hour. You may e-mail this information to me if you wish. Of course, you must realize that given the number of museums you have named, that you will only be able to see a few of the highlights. You might also consider skipping Galeries Lafayette, which is, after all, only a big department store. Let me know if this is accewptable to you.

I will formulate your itinerary after I get your response.
