It’s Me Mom did it again, this time at the back end of the season to post a win in the Minaret Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs
Newly turned 4-year-old filly, It’s Me Mom, capped off her 2011 campaign on a high note when she ran down her competition to the ground in the Minaret Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on 31 December, 2011, at about six furlongs on dirt against 9 other 3-year-old
and above fillies.
Lynne M. Scace trained filly for owners Jean and Thomas Bosch, It’s Me Mom had a wonderful 2011 campaign and the win in the Minaret Stakes marked her fifth of the season.
Under jockey Willie Martinez, It’s Me Mom was ruthless over the Tampa Bay Downs dirt track as she broke out of the gate well and showed immense speed throughout the race.
Half mile into the race was devastating for the rest of the speed except It’s Me Mom, as she grinded and conjured up a brilliant run with top speed without any blemishes. It’s Me Mom then pulled away frantically after the half mile and powered down the stretch
like a locomotive to post a significantly large win over, Moon Buzz, who got dumped by 8 ¼ lengths.
Yournotthebossofme finished third farther back, while It’s Me Mom covered the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 9.68 seconds.
The only blemishes her 2011 campaign had was a 4th place finish in the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes at Gulfstream Park last January to winner Sky Mesa in the 6 furlong event, as the winner posted the winning time of 1 minute and 9.75 seconds, as Pomeroys
Pistol finished second and Roxy Gap third.
Her second hiccup of the season was in the Satin N Lace Stakes at Presque Isle Downs, where she stumbled badly in the start and lost the advantage early in the race, but she pulled herself together and ran into contention, but ended up at the eighth spot.
The filly has the ability to post real fast fractions because she has such a high cruising speed, which refrained jockey Willie Martinez to use the whip on her on two of her local starts.
Coming off the pace isn’t even a problem for It’s Me Mom, as she can re-break and show a massive difference in pace that some fillies possess. She is truly a gifted one.
The win in the Minaret has made It’s Me Mom eligible for the quiet a few races, it will be hard for her connections to pick the right one, but one thing is for sure that the filly will give it her all on any track against any horse.
