It’s Official! Outfielder Nate McLouth re-signs with Baltimore Orioles- MLB Update
Nate McLouth officially re-signed with the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, December 13. The outfielder was an important member of the Orioles’ lineup in 2012 and performed particularly well in the post-season.
After he was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the mid season, the Orioles signed McLouth for a Minor League deal. He played 47 games for the Norfolk Tides, Orioles’ Triple-A associate and was called to the Majors in August.
Nate was quite clear that even after becoming a free agent, Baltimore Orioles was the team of his choice and saw a lot of potential doing better in the coming season.
"They were my first choice all along. As I mentioned previously, since the end of the season, during last season, it was just a very enjoyable time for me personally. And it's a good team," he said.
Nate had a .308 batting average in the six post-season games and he batted in five runs. His regular season was not too bad either, hitting with a batting average of .268 and a .342 on-base percentage during the regular season in 55 games. He had 18 RBI’s
and seven home-runs. He had a total of 56 hits in 209 at-bats.
Baltimore Orioles is the third team Nate will be representing in the Majors. The 31-year-old has previously played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Atlanta Braves.
He has a career average of .248 and an on-base percentage of .335. 2008 has been the most productive batting year for Nate this far.
He was glad to be back as he enjoyed his tie in Baltimore thoroughly and believes that having a good time is an important part of the game.
"And having such a good time last year and enjoying my time there was a big part of it. You want to be comfortable where you play. It's not maybe the most important thing, but it's certainly up there on the list," McLouth said.
He also admitted that Buck Showalter played a big role in his re-signing and joked that if he hadn’t done it, he would fear for his life. He was pleased that the man in charge of the team wanted him back.
"It was a good conversation, and it was important to know that the leader of the dugout and of the team wants you back. It was nice to know," said Nate.
The Baltimore Orioles are quite content with maintaining their players from 2012 to 2013. Nate McLouth’s signing is an obvious indication of that. Should he continue the good work he did in the limited opportunities he had in 2012 into the 2013 season, there
is no reason why he should not be playing with the Baltimore ball club for some time to come.
