It’s Tricky ready to extend her winning streak in the Delaware Handicap
The Godolphin Racing’s ultra consistent 4-year-old filly, It’s Tricky, is buzzing with winning form as she looks ahead to conquer some more races in the latter part of her campaign – which most likely will be at Saratoga Race Course for the summer meet.
Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, It’s Tricky has so far in three starts has stayed undefeated, and started the new campaign in fine fashion by winning the Grade 2 Top Flight Stakes at Aqueduct racetrack.
At about 1 1/16 miles, It’s Tricky along with rider, Ramon Dominguez, defeated Love and Pride in second and Bahama Bound in third, with the winning time of 1 minute and 45.30 seconds on 3 March, 2012.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonerside Stable, It’s Tricky didn’t stop there, but McLaughlin had her cut back in distance in her next start at Aqueduct racetrack.
The Grade 2 Distaff Handicap was run over a distance of seven furlongs, and for the race, Eddie Castro’s services were requires, and the pair made it to the wire first with the winning time of 1 minute and 22.39 seconds on 14 April, 2012, as C C’s Pal and Dontbeshy I’ll Buy finished second and third, respectively.
The 4-year-old Mineshaft filly’s toughest test of the season came in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Handicap at Belmont Park, where she was back over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 28 May, 2012.
In the Ogden Phipps, It’s Tricky was to face the likes of Awesome Maria, who was coming into the race on the back of 6 straight victories, and She’s All In, who is right up there with the top older fillies.
It’s Tricky took up the challenge and defeated Awesome Maria in third to snap her winning streak.
Now, It’s Tricky is all geared up to take the challenge in the Grade 2, $750,000 Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park on 21 July at Saratoga, which will assist in completing her long-term goal the Grade 1, $600,000 Personal Ensign over the same venue on 26 August.
“She can go a mile and a quarter, but a mile and an eighth is probably better,” said Artie Magnuson, assistant trainer to Kiaran McLaughlin. “She has been training very well, outstanding.”
