  1. If you see things - objects, books, colours clearly at a certain distance, and blurry when farther or closer, you may find that glasses will help.

Have a friend hold a book or a magazine, and you hold one up facing him or her. You read his/her book and have her/him read yours. Start up close (about 1/2 metre) and slowly back away until one or both of you can't read it anymore.

If you are much different than your friend, then you may want glasses.

BTW, optician is the "eye tester".

  2. You could go to the school nurse & her to arrange an eyetest for you:)

  3. if ur under 16 then u r right not to go on your oen but keep pushing ur parents into taking u because u may have a serious eye condition

    good lukk

  4. doesn't your school administer eye exams? we used to have to get one every year at my school.

also you should be getting a physical at your regular doctor every year, and there they make you take an eye exam and if you score lower than normal they tell your parents.

and you probably wouldn't be able to see the board, or you would get headaches from not being able to see and squinting.

  5. If you cannot see far object clearly or if your eyesight is blurry, then you'll need a glasses. Tell your parents that this is a serious matter and stop being nonchalant.

  6. You know if you need glasses if you're eyes get tired so it's hard to read small print especially at the end of the day.  Another clue is if you start seeing double when you look at the tv or your eyes feel like they are rolling to adjust to the picture.  Also if you can't see things clearly in the distance, say at the top of the road or car registration plates.  These clues are for either being long or short sighted.  If you live in the UK can't you just go and have a chat with the receptionist as I'm sure the tests are free and they can advise.  Also put in online eye test on google search and you may be able to get some basic test online to prove to others, not that they should have to have proof, they should just listen to you and maybe get a hearing test whilst waiting for you.  Good luck.x

  7. If things are blurry up close but clear far away, you're farsighted.

If things are blurry far away but clear up close, you're nearsighted.

I don't really know how to "test" it without seeing a doctor.  The eye chart at Wal-Mart maybe?

  8. Have your school nurse give you an eye-test if u fail then she will call ur mom and THEN she will no!

if you need glasses u will not b able 2 c objects as clearly as u normally could some ppl even get headaches.(i no cuz i have glasses)

  9. Okay if you are short sighted you may notice that things are a bit blurry in your distace vision. It might be an idea to stand 20 meters from a car number plate if you are having troubles reading it, that means you are below the legal standards for driving (well in the UK anyway).  If you are longsighted it is possible that you can have problems with near vision, although it can also affect you distance vision as well. You can also have what is called an astigmatism (irregular curvature of the eye). You should explain to your parents the importance of regular eye exams by an optometrist, you should be going every 12/24months. Not only is it checking your vision but also the health of your eyes. I'm assuming that you are still at school so perhaps you should mention the importance of exams and learning and how that can be affected by uncorrected eye sight. Good Luck

  10. The problem is that because your eyes get worse so gradually you don't really realise you need them until you have an eye test.  I usually don't realised I need stronger glasses/contact lenses but then when I get fitted for new ones at the optician I'm always surprised at how much better I can see and how much I needed new ones.

I'm interested to know why you think you need glasses.  Can you see the board and read books etc well enough in school?  I first found out I needed glasses after I had one of those little medicals through the school and they told my mum I failed the eye test, do they still do those at school?

  11. In Houston TX your school would give you eye test and if you need glasses they will inform your parents who in turn expectd to take it further. They do this every year in my daughter's sch. she's 14. Tell you parent how you feel about your eyes, if you squint or strain when you are in class or outside. So that you can have proper check up

  12. you know you need glasses when u cant see properly. you should be taken for a check asap if u feel there is a problem.
