It’s all about how you cope with pressure on the field, says Aleem Dar - Cricket News Update
The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) umpire of the year, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aleem-Sarwar-Dar-c43094 from Pakistan, vows to continue on his role as long as he is able to perform at his best.
Dar was unanimously nominated as the best umpire for third time in a row in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 awards ceremony, held in London on Monday, September 13.
The 43-year-old umpire said that one should know how to handle pressure on the field, since remaining calm and composed is the key behind umpiring. Dar said that by staying cool he is able to make quick decisions with minimum error.
The Umpire of the Year told The Express Tribune, “It’s all about how you cope with pressure on the field. Decision-making is always tough because there is pressure from every corner. You need to control your nerves. But despite
all that, I don’t get intimidated and keep a cool head because I’m there for a reason and the reason is to make a correct decision quickly.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755-born umpire believes that the use of cameras and other equipment has helped decision-making but said that he doesn’t rely on technology and let his natural abilities dictate.
“Although I am human and that means the probability of making mistakes exists as well, technology has already made its way into the game to correct those mistakes and that makes it helpful for the sport. However, I rely on my natural
ability and the results are there for you to see,” states the umpire of the year.
Dar was error less in One-Dayers and Twenty20 Internationals during the period between August 11, 2010 and August 3, 2011. His stats in Test were also impressive as the umpire was able to make 98 percent correct decisions during
the performance evaluation period.
It was because of such performance that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Robert-Shepherd-c53188 Trophy was bestowed upon Dar. All 10 Test playing captains and the eight-member panel of ICC match referees voted for the award. The 2011 inductee to ICC's Hall of Fame,
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alan-Andrew-Davidson-c42610, was the one who handed the trophy to Pakistani umpire.
Dar, whose umpiring career began in 2000, beat strong competition from Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-James-Gould-c63876. The umpire said that he will not bring any disrespect to his country by officiating for too and will hang
his boots when he feels he can not maintain his best.
