“It’s all about the Giants now,” Peyton Manning backs Eli Manning – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, appreciated the performance of his brother and New York Giants quarterback, Eli Manning, in the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game against San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, January 22, 2012,
and hoped that the Giants would win the Super Bowl.
“Go Giants. It’s all about the Giants now,” delighted Peyton said after the game.
Peyton, who had not informed the younger Manning about his arrival in San Francisco to watch the game, was present in the Candlestick Park when the Giants got victory.
Startled and surprised Eli received a hug from Peyton as the players headed towards the locker room.
“This is Eli’s day," Peyton declared. "I was glad I was here to witness it. I look forward to watching him in two weeks.”
Eli, who is also included in the prestigious Pro Bowl squad and is one of the top contenders for the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) this season, played an impressive game against the sturdy 49ers’ defence.
Despite being sacked six times, Manning completed 32 of 58 attempted passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns.
The Giants are going to take on New England Patriots in the Super Bowl game on February 5 in Indianapolis. Both these teams played against each other in the Super Bowl of the 2007-08 season and the Giants emerged victorious.
Manning was also a part of that squad and now he is just one step short of leading his team for the second time to the acme of the sport.
“It’s what I expected him to do,” Peyton said. “I’m just proud of Eli and how well he’s played this year. He’s been awesome. He’s been clutch.”
Throughout the season, Eli has led remarkable comebacks in the final quarters of different games and has performed exceptionally well under pressure. He himself has repeatedly asserted that he’s not bothered by pressure.
Witnessing him playing in such a pressure-mounting game, Peyton also had to agree to Eli’s claims.
"Eli is just as calm in the fourth quarter as he is in the first quarter of a preseason game,” Peyton said. “They expect to score. That’s impressive.”
Peyton, who missed this season completely owing to an injury, expressed his love and support for Eli and wished him best of luck for the game against the Patriots, who have qualified for the Super Bowl matchup after winning the American Football Conference
(AFC) by beating Baltimore Ravens.
