I'm not sure which version you have, but it sounds like you have been pausing your game a lot. If you pause your game too much, it may not grow as much as it should. Let it go for a whole day with no (or minimal) pausing, and let it get a whole night's sleep. If you pause it when it's supposed to be sleeping, it won't grow fast, either. After you let it sleep a whole night, with low pausing during the day, it should grow. I wish you luck, and I hope this has helped!
