The Chinese have named it The National Stadium, not the bird's nest.. I find it very disrespectful that the western media think they can re-name it.. How would you like it if the Chinese re-named The Statue of Liberty - w***e of the night?

  1. okay danny boy, it's named the national stadium, but its called the birds nest. i call it china's tribute to how much steel they have to waste

  2. What is your problem? The stadium was designed to look like a bird's nest. Did you see the opening ceremonies at the end, the image of bird's flying out of the stadium? Calling it the Bird's Nest is hardly disrespectful.

  3. The Chinese have also named their country Peoples "Republic" of China, but I don't see a whole lot of Representational government, or the People having a whole lot of say in anything.

  4. The Chinese designed it to look like a birds nest, that is why people call it that.  The Chinese tagged it with that name.  It is not an insult.

  5. The media's job is to present news to the viewer as easily as possible.

Which will a viewer remember more readily, "The Bird's Nest" or "The National Stadium."

Odds are, when the picture of the National Stadium flashes on the screen, people will think "hey look, its the building designed to look like a bird's nest!"

And calling it The Bird's Nest isn't derogatory by any means...w***e of the Night, however, would be considered derogatory.

Oh, that reminds me! The Statue of Liberty is also known as Lady Liberty. How crass! <that's sarcasm, if you can't detect it>

  6. wow, that's a bit strong. It was designed to represesnt a birds nest, so it's not a derogatory name that is being used, but, everyone to their own I guess. If something so miniscule pisses you off, you must have a good life with no real problems. Lucky you!

    GET A LIFE DANNYBOY!!!!

  7. Why do you think 'The Bird's Nest' is insulting? It's pretty common to give buildings affectionate nicknames based on what they look like, e.g. most people know 30 St Mary Axe, one of London's main landmarks, as 'The Gherkin'.
