The 24-year-old has urged his team-mate Christian Eriksen to prolong his stay at Amsterdam Arena despite being linked with a number of top European clubs.
Ajax Amsterdam captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, has expressed that reports linking him with a move to join a top European club inspires him to perform even better.
The Belgian stopper has reportedly been linked with the likes of AC Milan, Manchester City, Manchester United, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130.
Vertonghen started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the summer of 2006, coming from the fabled youth academy, Jong Ajax. Since then, he has played more than 100 matches for the Amsterdammers, netting 18 goals along the way.
While talking to goal.com, the 24-year-old stated that:
“To play for a team in the Premier League would be amazing and that’s what I am going for. It’s a beautiful competition, the best in my opinion. It’s flattering to be linked with clubs, the rumours give me confidence but I just try to do my best every game”.
Following his stellar performance in his side’s 2-1 win over Manchester United in the return leg of UEFA Europa League round-of-32, the highly rated centre-back seems set to leave Amsterdam Arena this summer.
However, the Belgian International has urged his team-mate, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Eriksen-c9074, to continue plying his trade with the Amsterdam giants to further enhance his skills. The Danish sensation has also been keenly observed by European big guns, and it is expected
that many clubs would be tabling bids in order to lure the 20-year-old away from Amsterdam.
“Maybe for Christian it’s better to stay one more year and he can learn something, be the leader in the field for Ajax one day. I hope he stays one more year at least. Christian is a clever guy and he will leave at the right moment”, Vertonghen concluded
while talking to goal.com.
The Belgian stopper has an ongoing contract at Amsterdam Arena that runs until the summer of 2013. And reports indicate that an offer in the region of 14 million Euros would be enough to lure the 24-year-old away from Amsterdam.
