I think I heard that as soon as the snow is gone, to get the pool going... which would be right about now.

(In Wisconsin)

Should I get the pool going now or hold off a bit?

I figure I would probably want to start working on it now incase we have any abnormally hot days (far and few here) to start using it.

  1. I would wait a little longer on firing up the pool just yet. I'm up here to and its still a little cold. As soon as you have the pool filled and ready your going to be paying for heating it, and running the pumps, and chlorine and shock treatments ect.... You can get bye the heat if you have a solar heater but it does'nt make much sense to do it yet. Yes it will take a while for your pool to get up to temp once you fill it but it won't take a month to do it. i would wait untill the begining of May the way the weather is going right now I can't see a need to go swimming before that. If you fill it now you will be using the heater to warm all the water and then the cold air will be cooling it off every night. that will get quite expensive!!! Wait untill the 2nd week of May then fill er up. Enjoy!!!

  2. some people have heaters for their pools and where i live in indiana they leave them open in nov and dec and open them very early in april. i work at a pool store and we open them during the whole season for us. if you ever get tired of it you can winterize it and close it.

  3. I am guessing it will be too cold to swim in Wisconsin until sometime in Early June.

If you have a heated pool, it will kill your power bill to open it now, and if you don't.... well its not the temp in the days, but rather the temp at night that is key.  Whatever the night time temp is, will be the pool temp.
