  1. Well, you never know... you might get to know that important 'who you know' at uni. And then that phrase could apply to you at a later date, when you are applying for something and they happen to be in a position to help you.

    Then both will be true.

  2. vera dicis.....<^><.....

    (you're right)

  3. Here's how I figure it - the WHO you know will help you get your foot in the door. The WHAT you know will help you get the interview. And the who you ARE will help you get the job.

So get the education, work your network (which you will develop even more at university) and then get out in the real world and wow them.

You can be extremely limited by a lack of education - don't ever pass up an opportunity to learn!

  4. It can be a true statement. However there are a large number of self made millioniares who did it all n there own. Is wise to go to uni if you have the chance, if you have a career path you wish to take then you need to know all about the subject. It would not make a differnece who you knew if you did not have the intelegence to do anything. Also going to uni you will introduce you to a lot more people, some of these are the people you should be needing to know in the future to help you.

  5. It's partly true.  But not by itself.  There are common components of personal human capital.

    * what you know (education, certifications, training, etc.)

    * what you've done (experience, honors, publications, etc.)

    * where you've been (world-view and geographic perspective)

    * who you know (familial, friends, references, etc...)

Unfortunately, some people think that one is more important than the others when reality is that you must maximize all of them.
