  1. Better than googling "certified farmers markets" go to http://www.localharvest.org this is a site with a huge data base of farms, farmers markets, co-ops etc that sell locally raised foods (much of which is certified organic and almost all is organically raised)

You might also seriously consider growing a garden next year and processing your own food. This is a lot of work but you will know exactly what you are eating and should save a couple of thousand dollars in the process. And doing such is very very satisfying work

  2. no, i love organic food to and its so d**n hard to find some good food.

  3. go to the farmer's market. it's very cheap and a great way to support your local economy! good luck.

  4. Google "certified farmers market" + your state or province.

It shouldn't be hard to find veggie foods - but you may need to get creative and find some easier or more interesting recipes.

Organic foods can still be hard to get depending on the area.  Talk to your grocery manager.  The more people that mention they want it the more likely they'll place the order.

  5. I've been finding it easier and easier as I learn what to look for. There really are a lot of things out there- especially ethnic foods. Its a good idea to start finding new vegan recipes to try out and buying the ingredients at the store, rather than trying to find veg/vegan pre-packaged foods. There are the obvious soy-dogs and such, but try buying some dried lentils! Buy ingredients to make your own falafel! Try couscous! Keep lots of fresh produce around and find a nice soysauce or tamari and make stir fry's often (I love stir fry, its become my favourite food)

I wouldn't worry too much about your produce being organic. Just look at what you're buying and be discriminatory. If it looks like freakfruit, don't buy it. Normal vegetables and fruits are still safe to eat. Do some background research on the growers, and find out what their farming methods are, then decide what to buy. Food that's labelled organic isn't necessarily better- and you're right- it is very expensive.

One of my absolute favourite websites for this kind of thing is "http://community.livejournal.com/veganc... Its really worth looking at- there's a massive archive of user submitted recipes and questions that are all tagged so its super easy to find what you're looking for!
