It’s time for New York Giants’ general manager, Jerry Reese, to play his role – NFL News
New York Giants’ general manager, Jerry Reese, had earlier asserted that game days were pretty relaxing for him and that he was not bothered by the pressure of big games, but it is that part of the year in which he has to undergo all the tension, stress and hard work – all of them are a part of his job.
New York Giants has entered the offseason with plenty of work for Reese to do.
On Thursday, February 9, 2012, he addressed the media and discussed the franchise’s offseason plans, out of which most important were the contract negotiations and new hiring.
“We’re used to doing a significant amount of work in the offseason. There’s a lot that goes into it,” he said of the workload.
The GM added:
“There’s a lot of planning, a lot of preparation and a lot of discussion on guys and on salaries and where we can go and where we can’t go. It’s a lot of discussion to be had, but we’ll be ready.”
Reese has to deal with defensive end, Osi Umenyiora, who is unhappy with his contract.
Recently, wide receiver, Victor Cruz, who will enter the last year of his contract with Giants, has also demanded a salary raise.
Moreover, the Giants have 24 unrestricted free agents, and Reese has not yet told how many of them would be on the team’s roster next season.
He said of this situation:
“There are always contract issues in the offseason. That’s what the offseason is. You have to deal with contracts and things with your roster – who’s going to stay, who’s going to go.”
That said, Reese refrained from spilling the beans at the moment and said that the players are still under evaluation.
On the other hand, Reese is also supposed to address the problem the team is facing in terms of availability of the tight ends.
During the Super Bowl XLVI game, Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum, left the field owing to a torn ACL and they are expected to start the next season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Bear Pascoe was the only tight end left on the field for Giants after the two had left.
Reese told that he would look into the free agency and keep any eye on the upcoming National Football League (NFL) drafts to hunt new talent.
The fans are expecting Reese to perform the same job as he did last year to compile a team that went on to win the Super Bowl.
