Itsmyluckyday will be running for his hat-trick in the Delta Downs Jackpot
The dark brown colt by Lawyer Ron, Itsmyluckyday, is on a nice win-streak going into the Grade 1, $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot at Delta Downs on 14 November, 2012, for trainer Edward Plesa, Jr.
Itsmyluckyday will be running for his hat-trick in the 1 1/16 mile race, restricted for 2-year-old colts and geldings, where he will face the likes of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint winner, Hightail, and Bern Identity, who for sure brings a surprise element to the race, as they both worked at Delta Downs ahead of the race, and are expected to participate.
Trainer Doug O’Neill will deploy two of his most lucrative juvenile colts from his barn, Know More and Goldencents, who will shape up a pretty competitive Delta Downs Jackpot lineup, all vying for a confirmed purse of $1 million.
Out of Viva La Slew by Doneraile Court, Itsmyluckyday posted back-to-back victories, as he is exiting an easy three length victory in the $80,000 Foolish Pleasure Stakes at Calder race course on 15 September, 2012. It was his first two turn debut, and he nailed it with conviction.
Prior to that, Itsmyluckyday downed another at Calder race course, his first race at the venue, as he went on to down the Fasig Tipton Turf Dash Stakes on 25 August.
“It’s a million dollars, and that’s a heck of an incentive,” he said. “It’s a graded race, so that’s a plus. And the timing works out well for him to go there for the million. We were looking at running in the Remsen in New York, but figured we’d try Delta. People from Calder have done pretty well in this race in the past. We’ll see if we can keep the tradition going.”
Owned by Trilogy Stable and Plesa, Laurie, Itsmyluckyday unsuccessful in his first maiden attempt finished second, but bounced back to break it on 23 June, 2012, as both attempts were at Monmouth Park.
Made his stakes debut at Monmouth Park as well, but couldn’t convert the chance as he finished third on the day in the Tyro Stakes going five furlongs on turf.
