Itunes backing up to external hard drive help?

Question

I have my Itunes folder backed up to an external harddrive but when i open up my actual library no songs are in it. In my itunes music folder all the artists have folders with all the music in it, but the library has nothing. How can i get all my music back into my library without reimporting, i havent deleted my original library cuz i dont wanna reimport ive got over 6000 songs
