Question:

Itunes will not let me authorize my computer or let me sign in?

I had to reformat my computer. I re-downloaded Itunes. I know when I connect my Ipod Touch, I will lose most of my music (but I can get it back). What I am concerned with is losing the stuff I paid for like my updates and purchased songs. When I try to sign into the Itunes store or authorize my computer, it tells me that the screen name is in use and to sign in with my screen name. Help please.

  1. If it's telling you the screen name is in use, it would indicate that you've accidentally chosen to create a new account instead of clicking to login using an existing account.

Also, just in case your iPod is under 3 months old - you get 3 months free telephone support from Apple. You can also buy their AppleCare that extends hardware warranty and gives unlimited support for 2 years from purchase date. I've had a couple of iPod replacements under AppleCare, so I think it's good value.

Apple tell you that you must make a backup of any music you purchase, because they don't let you download it again. So I hope either you have a backup, or that there's some way around their official line.

OK, so you're definitely signing in rather than creating a new account. You mention your "screen name", but you need to be signing in with the email address you used when creating your "Apple ID". This is usually a .mac address if you have one, or whichever other you used.

It's tough to avoid sounding patronizing here - I really don't mean to! See if the video link below helps explain it so you can see where you're going wrong - it's sure to be something simple;-)
