Ivan Dodig dismisses Vincent Millot in straight sets at Barcelona Open
Croatian tennis pro Ivan Dodig scored an easy victory over Vincent Millot of France in his opening match at the 2011 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, defeating the pro in straight sets to secure his place in the second round of the
tournament. Millot was sent packing in easy straights, as Dodig defeated him 6-2, 6-3. The match lasted just a little over one hour and twenty-five minutes.
Dodig is one of the world’s highest ranked Croatian players at World Number 56, and proved himself equal to the challenge of defeating French pro Vincent Millot from the very first set. The Croat began the match well, taking the
lead by breaking Millot thrice out of six break point opportunities. Dodig himself was broken just once, although Millot had six chances to take the lead from the player. Dodig proved himself to be the better player today, taking an impressive 58 per cent
of the points played in the first eight games to win the set 6-2.
This gave Dodig a comfortable lead in the match, as the second set began. Millot performed better in this set of the match, scoring one ace and staying away from any double faults. Dodig managed to break him twice out of three
opportunities in this set, and the French pro also converted one break point successfully.
The two players rallied back and forth during this set, which was just a little bit more competitive than the last one as Millot struggled to stay in the match and ultimately, the tournament. However, Ivan Dodig did not give him
much of an opportunity to defeat the Croat, and quickly shattered his dreams of a successful run at the 2011 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. The match ended with Dodig taking an impressive 58 per cent of the points in the second set, to win the match with a
score-line of 6-2, 6-3. The match was over within ninety minutes.
Ivan Dodig will be facing third seed Robin Soderling of Sweden in the next round of the tournament.
