Ivan Garcia and Saul German Sanchez win Men's Synchronised 10m Platform Gold – Pan American Games.
Ivan Garcia and Saul German Sanchez won the title of Men's synchronised 10m Platform final on third day of diving events at the 2011 Pan American Games. The session completed on Friday, October 28 at the Scotiabank Aquatics Center in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Pan American Games are one of the biggest international events and are held once in every four years.
The Mexican pair of Garcia and Sanchez presented their fascinating skills to conquer the crown of 10m discipline. They faced stiff battle from the Cuban duo of Jeinkler Aguirre and Jose Antonio Guerra, who performed hard to reach the top of podium.
Aguirre and Guerra remained prominently ahead of Mexican competitors in the first half of their diving sets. They scored 54.60 points to outshine the 54.00 effort of their opponents in the first round. The Cubans extended their lead to almost two points
in the second round, where they elevated their score to a sum of 110.40 points as compared to 108.60 points of their Mexican rivals.
In the next round, Aguirre and Guerra managed to sustain their top spot by scoring 191.04 points against the score of 187.80 points, made by Garcia and Sanchez.
In the fourth round, Garcia and Sanchez demonstrated their outshining efforts and earned a considerable lead over their challengers. The Mexican divers accumulated a fantastic score of 284.70 points to overwhelm 273.60 points' effort of their competitors.
The Mexicans went rampant in the final two rounds of their diving event, where they devastated hopes of Cuban athletes by accomplishing a total of 479.88 points for gold medal.
With their extraordinary efforts, they easily overwhelmed their strongest competitors in the last two rounds. Aguirre and Guerra remained 32.31 points behind the gold medallists and secured the podium for silver medal by gaining a total of 447.57 points.
They were followed by Kevin Geyson and Eric Sehn of Canada, who claimed the bronze medal with a third best score of 399.93 points.
The crowd applauded for gruelling effort of all contestants while the podium finishers received their medals after the conclusion of session.
