Ivan Garcia conquers Men’s 10m platform preliminary round – Swimming news
Ivan Garcia of Mexico conquered the preliminary round of Men’s 10m platform on third day of the FINA/MIDEA Diving World Series 2013 in Guadalajara, Mexico on Sunday, May 19.
Garcia devastated hopes of his challengers in the initial round of the event and proved his mettle for the top qualification stop. He faced strong contest from his closest competitor, Qui Bo of China but with his commendable efforts, he surfaced on the wall
for first position.
Both divers remained neck-to-neck with each other throughout the event while Garcia managed to gain a slight lead in the final round and entered the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
Garcia demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the first round, where he gained a total of 94.35 points. His notable pace remained marginally ahead of the Chinese player, who added 92.75 points to his scorecard.
Similarly, Qui lifted up his efforts in the second round where he added 98.00 points to his score while Garcia was able to get only 75.90 points.
The tables turned upside down in the third round, where Garcia geared up his efforts and obtained a score of 106.60 points. Qui, who managed to secure 69.30 points, followed him.
Qui, who scored 97.20 and 94.30 points respectively, dominated fourth and fifth rounds of the event. In contrast, Garcia’s efforts deteriorated and he earned 75.60 and 90.75 points respectively.
Garcia dominated the last round of the event with a score of 95.00 points to put 538.20 points on the board for fastest qualification spot. On the other hand, Qui was able to obtain only 75.60 points in the final round and entered the playoff with a total
of 527.15 points.,
Victor Minibaev of Russia, who earned 507.35 points, secured third fastest qualification spot of the event. The third best finisher was followed by German Sanchez of Mexico, who stayed prominently slower from his competitors and qualified as fourth best
diver with a score of 449.80 points.
In addition, Garcia was extremely happy with his fastest qualification effort and stressed that he would try to secure the title.
