Ivan Lendl and Andy Murray target Wimbledon glory in 2013 – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ivan Lendl, is working hard with his student Andy Murray who is ranked number three in the world and had a fantastic season at his disposal in 2012. The Scot won the Olympics Gold Medal at the All England
Lawn Tennis Club and coupled it with a breakthrough run at the US Open in New York that yielded the first Grand Slam title of his career at the age of 25.
There are a lot of positives to be taken from the current season and still Lendl is primed to bring several changes in the game style of Murray to make him more competitive and consistent against the Top-ranked players in the world
especially the likes of the reigning world number one Novak Djokovic, Swiss Maestro Roger Federer and 11-time Grand Slam Champion, Rafael Nadal.
Lendl stated in an interview, “I said this would take time, that there was no overnight solution. If Andy had won the Australian Open, it would have been a coincidence that I had just come on board. We haven't really had much time
to look at his overall game - that will come at the training camp next month. We have four weeks there, and then I believe things will get even better.”
"I am sure he would have liked to have won more than three events this year. It might have looked better on his record had he won seven, but would he have preferred to win more, or the events he won?"
Murray’s coach accepted that the main aim for the following season is the ultimate glory of the Wimbledon title but still other tournaments are on the radar of Lendl as well which includes the Roland Garros French Open that is
predominantly occupied by the Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal. There are no talks exchanged between the coach and the player about the complete motto of the new season but the main goal is definitely the title at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in June.
It will be interesting to witness how Murray performs in the 2013 season because the comeback of Rafael Nadal from the major injury layoff will definitely create a different scenario altogether.
