Ivan Lendl opts not to reveal Murray’s tactics for Australian Open – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ivan Lendl, has opted not to share Andy Murray’s tactics for the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open.
Lendl was asked to share his and the British number one’s planning but the legend chose to snub the interviewer and not to share their strategy, saying that he never does that as it’s not important to know for anyone other than
his student.
The eight-time Grand Slam winner was on a tour to Hong Kong to promote an exhibition event, BNP Paribas Tennis Showdown, which will be organized in the March of next year.
Lendl stated, "I never get into the details of his game with anyone because it not necessary for anyone other than Andy to know.”
Murray started to take Lendl’s coaching services at the start of 2012 season. The British number one had already lost three Grand Slam finals at that time. The 25-year-old reached the final of Wimbledon, becoming first player from
his country to do so in the last 74 years. However, he lost the title match once again to come at par with his coach, who had also lost final of first four Grand Slams he had reached.
However, Murray made his countrymen and coach proud, as he thrashed one of the best players in tennis history, Roger Federer, to capture Gold Medal at the London Olympics after just one month of the Wimbledon debacle. The Brit
did not stop and overpowered Novak Djokovic in the final of US Open to capture his maiden Grand Slam title.
When Lendl was asked if Murray could be able to win back to back Majors by capturing the Australian Open crown, he replied, "Well obviously that is the goal. But tennis is very difficult at the moment with (Novak) Djokovic, (Roger)
Federer, (Rafa) Nadal and Andy all very good at the moment so it is going to be difficult to succeed. Yes he does have a chance but I can't make any predictions."
A reporter asked if he thinks that Murray would be able to dominate the sport now, Lendl said, "I am not going to go there. The only way to answer that is to take one match at a time, one tournament at a time and see what happens."
Murray will try to go two steps further at the Australian Open in 2013, as he was downed by Djokovic in the semi-finals in this year.
