Ivan Menjivar makes John Albert submit in bantamweight bout in UFC on Fuel TV1 – UFC news
Ivan Menjivar, the Canadian mixed martial art sensation, put forth the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fans the one and only submission win by nailing his rookie opponent John Albert in UFC on Fuel TV1.
UFC on Fuel TV1 was the first bout televised by Fuel TV and was headlined by the brawl between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez. The octagon was stretched at Omaha Civic Auditorium situated in Nebraska on February 15, 2012.
Ivan and John were bound to take on each other in a one-on-one non-title bantamweight bout. The bout was somewhat considered as a one-sided handicap brawl since Ivan, infamous as, Prince of El Salvador heavily overshadowed John by his experience and other
stats.
Ivan had been in a total 31 bouts and came out victorious in 23. He has collected nine of his wins by knockout and eight by making the opponent tap after executing an impressive submission manoeuvre. His stats show that the Salvadorian prince does not only
possess high levels of resilience but also has a huge, powerful fist, and a bag full of submission tactics to enhance his win ratio two-fold.
John Albert, 25, hailing from America was entering in his career’s ninth brawl and it was a bit harsh to put him against a heavy duty opponent of Ivan-calibre. The young lad later on proved that he has a heart by not only accepting words of praise from Ivan
but also by accepting the engagement in the first place. John, infamous as the ‘Prince’ collected three of his seven wins by submission and four by kayo.
John attacked Ivan vehemently and did not show any signs of being intimidated. The confidence put forth by John made Ivan recall the tactics of Japanese mixed martial art legend Kazushi Sakuraba.
Though Albert brawled like a pure veteran brawler who knows how to take down any opponent yet Ivan was the senior man and he came up with the idea of how to nail John. After 3 minutes and 45 seconds of the first round Ivan grabbed the tired John from his
back and locked his head in rare naked choke. John had no other option but to tap out and collect his UFC’s first and careers second loss.
Ivan after the fight commented, “In my head, I was thinking about (Kazushi) Sakuraba in old PRIDE, and what Sakuraba could do in this moment, and I did it." While praising his young opponent the El Salvadorian prince said, That was heart. He's strong, and
he was good.”
Ivan now has 24 wins in his account in 32 bouts and John’s resume now shows two defeats and seven wins in a total nine skirmishes.
