Ivan Nova expected to return from Disabled List on Sunday – MLB New York Yankees Update
According to a leading sports website, there is finally good news for the New York Yankees, who have struggled to live up to their fans expectations in recent times. Starting pitcher Ivan Nova who had problems with his right shoulder is expected to return
to the bullpen on Sunday, replacing Freddy Garcia.
Yankees are in locked in a tight pennant race these days. It is absolutely crucial for Manager Joe Girardi to ensure all pitchers and hitters are fit to play when they are required to do so. Nova’s presence will certainly give Yankees more confidence going
at this critical time of the season.
“We’re fighting for the [AL East] lead, so I’m going to try to come back as quickly as possible. That’s the way it is,” said Mark Teixeira.
Although Girardi has not made the announcement publicly as yet, the source explained why the Yankees will pick Nova instead of Garcia against Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
“I don’t have a concern he can’t go 80 to 90 pitches,” Girardi said. “I don’t think 80 to 90 pitches is out of the question.”
“We are thinking about him coming off the DL,” manager Joe Girardi said of Nova, who has been shelved since August 22 with an inflamed rotator cuff. “I have to see how he feels. We consider him a rotation guy. We don’t consider him a bullpen guy.”
Nova made an extremely impressive start to the season. However, after suffering a shoulder injury, he lost his way completely, going 1-4 in his last five starts. His 8.59 ERA, 40 hits and five home-runs on his last five appearances explain why he needed
to take some time off.
The starter has already begun his workout with the Yankees’ pitching coaches. He took part in a practice session at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg a few days ago and so far all signs are positive.
Against the Orioles, Nova has managed to win just one out of three starts this year with a poor 7.99 ERA. Surely, he will be looking to give a hundred percent to improve those numbers.
