Ivan Nova looking to continue his good work after All Star Break – MLB Update
Native of Dominican Republic, Iván Manuel Nova Guance has looked in outstanding form since the start of the season. Nova made his Major League Baseball debut in 2010, securing a job with one of the biggest clubs in the game, the New York Yankees.
Nova impressed General Manager Brian Cashman in his rookie year, finishing 2010 season with a decent 1-2 record and 4.50 ERA in seven starts. Improving his pitching skills greatly with each passing game, Nova posted a more successful season in 2011 as he
went 16-4 with a 3.70 ERA, showcasing his ability to perform in crunch situations.
For his incredible achievements, he was also named to the Baseball American All Rookie Team. He finished fourth for the American League Rookie of the Year voting.
“I’m not satisfied with what I’m doing,” Nova said on Wednesday. “I can do more than this. I got to keep working hard. There are still mistakes I shouldn’t have and I’ve got to do better every time I get a chance.”
“I’m much more comfortable this year than I was last year, there’s no doubt about it,” Nova said. “My teammates don’t treat me as a rookie anymore. They see me as a big part of this team and that makes you feel comfortable. I know the game a little bit more
and that helps me in each game.”
The tall right hander continued his excellent work in 2012. Right now, he is 10-3 in 17 games played. His ERA of 3.92 and 100 strike-outs has helped the Yankees win several important games. In the absence of ace C.C Sabathia, Nova has transformed himself
into a formidable number one starting pitcher for his team.
Nova still believes he has a lot more to offer and he is always looking for ways to improve. His desire to take the Yankees to new heights is what makes him an asset for the team. After spending quality time with his family, Nova will be back for Yankees’
series against Los Angeles Angels. It will be interesting to see if he can put up similar numbers in second half of this season.
