Ivan Nova shines as New York Yankees defeat Baltimore Orioles 10-0 – MLB Update
Ivan Nova, a relief pitcher for the New York Yankees, gave a sturdy performance as the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 10-0 at the George M. Steinbrenner Field on March 16.
Nova managed to pitch an impressive six innings without a single hit. He comprehensively restricted the Orioles’ offence from scoring against him.
The Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi was pleased with the efforts and performance of Nova and said, "It's the best pitching performance we've had in spring training."
Russell Martin, the catcher for the Yankees, was also content with Nova’s pitching and said, “He impressed me out there. I think he impressed himself. It's hard to have a much better outing. He showed last year that he can pitch in the big leagues, and with
a start like this, he can go into the season in the right direction.”
The Yankees completely dominated the Orioles throughout the game. The Orioles were unable to get their offence to fire and put some valuable runs on the board.
An RBI double by Yankees’ Mark Teixeira in the first inning started the run scoring by New York. The score moved to 4-0 in the sixth after Alex Rodriguez hit a two run homer. The Yankees went on to have a big seventh inning with five runs coming from it.
The Orioles struggled from the brilliant pitching of Nova. His six innings of pitching flustered and frustrated the Orioles’ offence. Vladimir Guerrero of the Orioles was the only one able to get a hit for his team.
The Yankees put in a good performance as they restricted the Orioles from scoring a single run throughout the entire game. New York’s batting line-up looks very strong this year and this game proved their effectiveness against some of the weaker teams in
the League.
It will be interesting to see how the Yankees can carry their confidence into the regular season which is scheduled to begin shortly. The Orioles will be looking to improve their performance and finalise both pitching and batting line-ups before the season
begins.
