Ivan Sergeyev crushes Vladislav Dubinsky to reach round two – Siberia Cup 2012 CH
Fourth seed, Ivan Sergeyev, devastated the local challenger, Vladislav Dubinsky, with a bagel at the Siberia Cup 2012 on Tuesday. He jolted down a 6-3, 6-0 victory against the 19-year-old to breeze into the round of 16 at this ATP (Association of Tennis
Professionals) Challenger Tour event held in Tyumen, Russia.
The seeded Ukrainian reeled off last seven games in a row to carve out the match in 47 minutes. The players last battled each other at the Saransk Challenger three years ago and after bagging this match, Sergeyev maintained his winning record against the
local teenager.
Sergeyev comfortably entered his indoor hard court tournament taking place from 19th to 25th November. He got the coveted break in the sixth game and jumped to a 5-2 lead. The Ukrainian held his serve once again and clicked the opener
with a 6-3 win. He was never threatened with any barrier and converted one out of two break chances to his advantage.
Ranked 162nd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Sergeyev went out of control in the proceeding set. He unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and winded up all six games to carve out the set with a bagel. The Ukrainian brushed off
the only breakpoint he came across and capitalised on three out of four break chances to steal the spotlight.
All in all, the 24-year-old outclassed the world number 1068 completely. He spilled fewer unforced errors and hammered four aces. The Ukrainian clobbered a lower first serve share of 50 per cent as compared to his rival’s 64 per cent but impressively marked
22 out of 28 points on it.
Up next for Sergeyev is another local contender, Konstantin Kravchuk, who dumped Poland’s Grzegorz Panfil in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The Belarusian qualifier, Egor Gerasimov, will accompany Sergeyev. He trashed the Uzbekistani contender, Nigmat Shofayziyev, in straight sets to progress. The Belarusian was never threatened with any breakpoint and marked four out of six break chances, eventually
formulating a 6-2, 6-2 score line. He produced a better first serve share and impressively availed 27 out of 33 points on it.
