Ivan Ukhov confirms his participation at Moravia High Jump series – Athletics news
Russian athlete, Ivan Ukhov will be joining the field at the eighth edition of the Moravia High Jump series in January, 2012. Winner of Bronze medal at the World Championships in Daegu, Trevor Barry from The Bahamas, has also confirmed his participation
in the meet. Barry holds a personal best score of 2.32 metres. At the 2006 Caribbean games, Barry was among the top finishers, as he won silver medal in the high jump category.
Jaroslav Baba, the 2011 European Indoor silver medallist, will be a top contender, as he holds the capability to shake Ukhov's approach. Baba will be seen competing in both competitions.
Ivan Ukhov claimed two successive European titles in 2009 and 2011. The Russian athlete will be in the spotlight as the top contender for the event. The Russian high jumper is well acquainted with the venue of Hustopec and Trinec, and considering the fact,
contenders will have to keep a keen eye over their preparation as well.
He embossed a world leading score of 2.38 metres at the indoor seasons in Hustopece and replicated a decent performance at Trinec, in 2010. On his upcoming appearance at the meet at the same venues, Ukhov said, "I'm happy to return again to the Moravia series.
Especially Hustopece which is one of my favorite indoor halls. Hopefully the bar wouldn’t be so strict for my World record attempts like last season. And for Trinec I would hope to improve my event record."
Ukhov attempted to break the world indoor record last year, as he made several attempts at 2.44 metres, which was clear picture of his extraordinary potential.
Chaunte Howard Lowe will be seen leading the women's category. The US record holder has asserted her participation in the meet. She will return after a long maternity break, to have her second daughter. The 27-year-old athlete set a US record in 2010 with
a leap of 2.6 metres.
Without having any scheduled training, Lowe appeared at the US Championships, last year, where she engraved decent finishing figures at 1.78 metres, and topped the score charts. She also claimed the bronze medal at the Daegu Championships, in Korea, 2010.
