Ivan Ukhov to highlight the eighth edition of the Moravia High Jump Tour series 2012
Ivan Sergeyevich Ukhov, the 26-year-old high jumper from Russia will highlight the eighth edition of the Moravia High Jump Tour Series in the last week of January 2012.
As per the schedule, the gold medal winner of the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships will appear in both legs of the competition, in Hustopece and Trinec.
Ukhov has emerged as a promising young athlete. Ever since he came into the limelight in the European Athletics Indoor Championships two years ago, he has never looked back.
Every new day brings more successes for the silver medal winner of the 2010 European Athletics Championships.
In this tender age, the stellar performer has broken the Russian national record in indoor competitions twice. With a personal best of 2.40m jump, he is regarded as the eleventh best athlete in the history of high jumping to have the honour.
For the impeccable credentials that the Russian boasts of, he is rightly going to be the focus of attention for the two showdowns in Czech Republic.
The first of these competitions, to be hosted in Hustopece, will commence on January 28th, while the second one will take place two days later in Trinec.
For escalating himself up to 2.38m in Hustopece and 2.34m in Trinec, he is the current record holder for both the competitions, and thus, the winner of the 2010 IAAF Diamond League knows the venues well.
While sharing his feelings on returning to the events where he observed the event records last year, Ukhov said, “I’m happy to return again to the Moravia series. Especially Hustopece, which is one of my favorite indoor halls. Hopefully the bar wouldn’t
be so strict for my World record attempts like last season. And for Trinec I would hope to improve my event record”.
The potential rivals expected to take on the Russian performer along with the event title are Jaroslav Baba – the athlete who finished for a second place in this year’s European indoors, Trevor Barry – third place finisher in the World Athletics Championships
in Daegu, from Bahamas, and the countryman Nikita Anishchenkov – top finisher of 2011 European Junior Championships.
With the London Olympics 2012 just around the corner, athletes will look forward to marking a good start at the Moravia High Jump Tour Series 2012, and this can pose a serious challenge to the Russian star, who spent an unbeaten season this year.
