Ivan Zaytsev ends the rumours of leaving M. Roma Volley – Volleyball news
Italian Ivan Zaytsev put an end to the rumours which lately filled the air following his team lost to Verona at the Italian National League.
The 23-year-old Ivan represents Italian club team M. Roma Volley and also plays for the national team.
Ivan is one of the top players in Italy and is regarded as an attacking weapon. His team, Roma Volley, crossed paths with the archrival Verona in Round 21 match on Sunday, March 4. The match lasted for four sets and Roma Volley could secure only one frame,
which allowed Verona to celebrate 3-1 victory. Right after Roma’s defeat, many rumours started hovering around. Reportedly, Ivan got offers from other clubs to leave Roma and join them.
The news about his transfer became the hot topic of the day. However, the rising volleyball star had his say about the matter.
He stated, “I have personally not done anything to feed these rumours. Nothing of all this is true and I am a bit annoyed because that creates further distraction for the club, which is already going through a difficult moment. The only thing I can confirm
is that some Italian clubs have shown interest. I consider all this normal, and I am flattered  because this means I am highly rated in Italian volleyball but I repeat, I haven’t singed any contract nor have I promised anything to anyone.”
Ivan is the son of former Russian volleyball player Vyacheslav Zaytsev, who led his team to two Olympic gold medals. His father moved to Spoleto in Italy where Ivan was born. Ivan started his volleyball career in Italy and initially played as setter.
Later on, he moved to outsider’s position and debuted with the national team in 2008. He proved his skills and soon found a strong spot in the team. He represented Italy at the 2010 World Championship when Italy finished fourth.
He also took part in 2011 FIVB World Cup in Japan and led his team in the front row. He did a terrific job and enabled Italy to finish in the top-5 teams of the tournament. Ivan, no doubt, is a player with great reputation in Italy and every team wants to
hire him. Nevertheless, he is committed to play at Roma Volley as he shares a long-term relation with the team.
