The Blues defender was shown a straight red card, for a studs up tackle on the City player, in a Community Shield game that the two sides played this past Sunday.
However, due to a change in rules that the FA introduced two years ago, the player will not miss out on the coming three Premier League games for Chelsea.
The rule was changed after both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394 saw red in a pre season friendly a couple of seasons ago.
Deeming it pointless to follow up on a red card that players picked up in pre season, the new changes were introduced to the FA’s rules.
As a result, all the yellow cards that were shown towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vincent-Kompany-c36184, will not follow through to the coming Premier League season.
Despite some early protests from the Chelsea players that Ivanovic didn’t deserve to see a red card for his tackle, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 has now gone on to admit that considering how high his foot was, the referee did make the right call at that point in time.
“I saw Iva going in for the ball but his leg was over the ball, so it was a bit high and if he caught him, then it's a red card, that's what the referees have told us in meetings we have had," Cech told the club's official website.
"There was no intention to hurt the player, but the tackle happened and so it was probably a red card."
The Blues will have to learn from this defeat, as they need to get their act together going into the coming season.
At the moment, they have one of the best teams in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and considering the amount of signings that they have made, they really should have performed much better against City.
Nonetheless, it is going to be interesting to see just how they bounce back from this loss to City in the Community Shield.
