Question:

Ivanovic hit lucky shot on Dechy's match point; she should have lost?

I like her. But I am a little annoyed that she keeps making fist pumps when her opponent make errors. And I think Dechy should've won that match, I mean really.

On Dechy's second match point, Ana saved it by tipping off her ball from the net. It shouldn't have crossed the net, but it is hit so hard that it actually goes up and drop off just inside Dechy's court. What do you think? Can she regroup herself and go far in the tournament?

  1. Completely agree with you. I am an Ivanovic fan but I know she had an off day today and should have lost to Dechy but that net cord saved her from defeat. That was just a freak shot Ana hit. Hopefully she can get act together to make a good run far into the tournament.

Edit: Apparently Ana decided to not get her act together and play poorly again and this time it costed her. I sort of kinda knew she'll go down in the next round of Wimbledon.

  2. i am with you but more than a little annoyed! especially when she even fist pumped when Dechy double faulted! she won that set totally by luck when the ball tipped, it must be heartbreaking for Dechy looking back at she should have won. i am rooting for sharapova or any of the william sisters

  3. Grass isn't her best surface.  Serena might take her out.

  4. i agree with u all,i feel quite sad that dechy cried an hour after that match.she's just unlucky and she's the classiest player today.i hope ana lose next round, she's just lucky to be here.

  5. She was lucky, very lucky. But, at least she had the grace to admit that she got lucky and probably should have lost the match on that point. As for her on court demeanour, I didn't think it was as bad as so many of you make it out to be. OK, she pumped her fist every point she won, but it was in no way an offensive gesture, and was merely to motivate herself. I don't think she even realises it most of the time. If any of you actually play tennis, you would know that emotions and the mental game are just as big components as the actual play. The players must have a way of channelling this emotion, and Ana does it by pumping her fist. I have no problem with that. Maria Sharapova does it too, and also when her opponent loses an important point because of a mis-hit.

I'm not really sure how this result will affect her, but I do think she can advance at least to the second week, because her route is relatively clear until she gets to the semis. To be honest, Dechy was simply amazing yesterday, and it was the performance of her life. She was very unlucky not to have won, but could come to rue a few missed opportunities. I think this match will give Ivanovic a real wake up call, and that she will focus a lot better in future rounds. So, yes, I do tip her to go far in the tournament.

  6. Well if Dechy should have won she would, she had more chance than one match point. She didn't use them so she lost, simple as that.  And yes I think Ana can regroup herself and go far in the tournament but I don't think she can win it though.

  7. Yeah she is a pretty classless little trollope and will loose soon just like her buddy Novak. She isn't a class act or a top player just lucky as all h**l.

  8. I hope that she realizes that she just made it through with luck and she is rattled, but I don't think she'll have a problem until Serena Williams. I hope that Serena will defeat her in straight sets after her rude and immature win today over Dechy.

  9. That's how it goes I guess good to be lucky lucky to be good

  10. Yes, I agree. I watched that point live and my mouth dropped open.

Ivanovic, though I do like her and this is not a personal attack on her, got lucky and did not deserve to win. This was Dechy's match.

This reminds me of how Sharapova barely snuck by her first round match at the French Open this year. She had won the previous Grand Slam (like Ana) and was the No. 1 Player. There is no doubt in my mind that Ana does not have enough gas in the tank to keep running. She will lose in the 4th round or QF.

  11. She shouldnt be doing that, I dont see why anyone would deny thats its very unsportsmanlike. However, I did just look at her interview and she did fully acknowlege how lucky she was, so thats a good thing. I mean she went on and on about the luck side, and alot of people wouldnt do that so kudos to her for that. But I still don't like her. Hope Serena beats her!

  12. Okay I just finished watching a repeat broadcast of the match on ESPN. I did not get to see it live and earlier I thought that this was a great win for Ana. However after actually watching the match I have to agree with you guys for what turned out to be a bit of disgraceful demeanor from Ana.

I usually don't have that much complaints about her except that her fist pumps usually annoys me at times. Not because she does it, but because of how she does it. LOL

Okay I agree that match point  that hit the net cord and went over.. gosh it was such horrible thing to happen for Dechy and my heart did went out to her.

However what really had me annoyed at Ana is when Dechy's hat fell off in the middle of the third set, as she hit what seemed to be a winner but the umpire said that they had to replay the point. It was so clear that Ana was not going to get that ball back in play. But rather than simply say something, Ana remain quiet. Even the commentators were saying that this was Dechy's point that would have given her a 15-30 lead on Ana's serve.

Then with Dechy serving at 5-6, 15-40, Ana had two match points at that stage. However Dechy saved both and then eventually served out the game with an ace. However Ana decided to question the call late. It was so annoying of her to do that especially when the call was long made, and then she took her precious time to challenge. Needless to say the call stood and Dechy even things up at 6-6 all.

Later at 7-7 all, Ana serving at 15-15, but her serve was call out. She challenge the call again and by the slimmest of margins, the reply indicated the ball was in. Dechy just stood there and smile. It was at that point where both Mary Carillo and d**k Enberg talked about how classy Dechy has been throughout this entire match. So many things happened to her in the match, with calls being overruled against her or not going in her favor, the net cord at match point, her hat falling off and then being told to replay the point that she clearly won, Ana's annoying fist pumps at crucial stages in the match, and and through it all Dechy never displayed any disgraceful behaviour.

Ana had no right winning today's match. By far Dechy played the match of her life and deserved to win. It's just a shame.

As for how far she will go, if she plays the way she did today then I won't be too surprise if she loses before the Quarterfinals. However I am expecting her to make the semis where she will most likely face Serena.
