I made a rez with a travel agency for hotel in trinidad when i realized i wasnt going 2make it i called the agency and cancelled i asked for a cancel # but she said there isnt 1 im cancelling thru the computer even though i had never heard of that i said ok...well over 2 months later on i got a bill in the mail from my cc for charges totalling almost $1400 for a no show charge..i called the agency and the agent said she did cancel but she didnt have the cancel # cuz she cancelled directly through the computer call your cc to dispute charges. I disputed charges with cc & they came back with the decision that i had to pay the amount because there was no proof of me cancelling even though i sent them an email convo with the agency that she is agreeing that i called and she cancelled the rez over 2months before the travel date. So now i am stuck with an almost $1400 bill that is not my fault. What can i do? Is there a travel agency board or something that i can fight with the travel agency

  1. I doubt the travel agency cancelled in time and I think even if they did the local hotel in Trinidad didn't bother with your request. They conveniently left it there knowing you would incur the charge(s).

If you have proof of email contact why don't you send it to your credit card company?

The other thing I would do is contact the hotel directly and ask them to fax you a copy of your reservation. Don't mention any thing about cancellations...just to see what they actually have you down for.

  2. if your credit card company decided you have to pay, you have to pay. its that simple.

the hotel probably did not cancel it knowing they are a foreign country to you and not susceptible to any rules or agencies that you could report them to.

always, always get a cancellation number or authorization number. and always demand a faxed receipt or an email receipt of any transaction on your credit card.

  3. If it's on your credit report, dispute it. They have 30/60 days to respond. Also call the travel agent again and ask to speak to their manager, if you're not satisfied, tell them you want their manager. The more you complain, the faster the problem will be resolved

  4. You owe for the bill since you did not have proof that the agency canceled the reservations for you.  A lot of trips are prepay no refund so you owe the money.
