hello everyone ive got another question for you all and i need some knowlegable answeres if you can please.

I mentioned a few months ago that ive been suspended because £330 went missing from my till at the carphone warehouse and i couldnt remember placeing any money in the safe which were supposed to do because i always found it as an everyday little thing that you forget about at work any how so i said i could of left the money at the side of my till and i cant remember placeing it in the safe and they have now sacked me for gross negligence with no warnings on my record or any thing.

i also know some one who is a manager at the carphone and he didnt do any stock checks properly all the time he has been there any way someone else who came into the store did a full stock take and found about a £1000. worth of equipment had gone missing, he hasnt even been investigated over the matter and its all been forgotton about.

DO YOU THINK ITS RIGHT HOW I GOT SUSPENDED AND INVESTIGATED AND DISMISSED FOR GROSS NEGLIGENCE

if so does anyone know a way i can get a job without telling a new employer ive been sacked

  1. Well it depends on your laws.  Any mislaying or misappropriation of funds or product can get you fired and investigated.  This is why you must be very careful that when working with someone else's money, you follow procedure to the maximum.  If sounds like to me that the business was justified in firing you--sorry.  You were responsible for the money and the money went missing.  I wouldn't worry about what other people are doing in the workplace as that is their problem.  As far as finding another job it can be done.  Try and downplay if possible your firing but be honest when asked.  Try not to use that business as a reference for sure.  Good luck.

    Good Luck.

  3. You were not arrested, charged and convicted of any crime that affects your employment record.  So you need not worry about having a criminal record prevent you from getting another job.  And since you were not convicted of any such crime, your previous employer CANNOT tell your potential future employer that you stole money from the company.  You would have to check your local employment laws to find out if they can say that you failed to secure funds and those funds went missing.  That I don't know.

As far as what your previous employer might say when contacted by a potential new employer:

I'm in the US, and from what I know, many employers purposely limit what information they provide because it is too easy for them to be sued for slander, giving false information (even if by accident) or giving out other information, on a former employee, that might be prohibited to disclose by law.  Most employers will only say:

    1.  Whether you quit or were terminated; and

    2.  Whether or not they would be willing to rehire you.

If you were a fantastic employee, the employer will probably say so.

It is not worth the stress and anxiety to compare your situation to another at your workplace.  It just so happens that your situation was noticed and action was taken, and the other staff member's neglect has been overlooked.  You cannot change that.  You will just need to let it go - see this as a chance opportunity for something better that might be just around the corner!

If you feel comfortable in doing so, make an effort to disclose the situation during a future job interview.  Some people would advise against this, but I feel that a potential new boss will respect your honesty more.  If you say nothing, and your former boss informs them of the specifics on your termination, you risk the new boss not hiring you for lack of honesty.

    It's a toss-up.
