Question:

Ive bin off work for 8 days already this yr 5 days when i was ill an 3 when my child was ill where do i stand?

i,ve worked for a company now for 6 months i have already have 8 days off this year 5 of those days were because i did my back in and 3 were because my daughter was ill the company have now said if i have any more time off this year i will face a disaplinary where do i stand ! i cant help it if my daughters ill shes 11 yrs old i cant leave her home alone and her nan cannot look after her all the time

  1. Depends on the rules of the company, but if you've been working there for 6 months and you had 8 days medical leave then you're "in debt". I know many companies allow one day sick leave per month (and that's one to share between you and your sick child/children).

    You have to remember one thing. Overdoing the sick leave bit before you've established yourself in the company (I believe for most companies, the first 6 months for an employee is usually probation or something like that), makes your employer regret employing you.

    Just think of this... As much as you put your child first, the company will have to put themselves first and every time you aren't at work, there's probably someone up there in management thinking of how there could be someone ELSE doing YOUR job if it weren't you.

    Try not to miss work for the next 6 months. That is, if you really need this job... and if possible, think of that story you gave them during the interview about what you'd do if your kid were ill.


  2. You need to find information on you state's Family Medical Leave Act. What you have mentioned is not legal in Oregon. But they can choose to let you go at anytime during probation for any reason. If you are still in probation you should take it seriously.

  3. they cant do that if your ill your ill .you should of got a note from your doc. my work used that one on me but never worked. only prob i was there for 3 years where as u been then not very long.

  4. each company is different andso ,  I DONT THINK OR FEEL THEY CAN DO MUCH TO U IF U HAVE A DRS NOTE   AS  for ur daughter being sick, well do u have  any friends or neighbors you can trust to watch her for most of the day and tell them at work you have to leave early because of your sick daughter? IF THE ANSWER IS NO  AND THEY GIVE UA PROB AT WORK THEN U CAN GET A BETTER JOB THAT WORKS AROUND U AND UR NEEDS. although most jobs dont care about the employees situation .
