So i've heard mixed things about giving cats milk. I wouldn't say i give him milk everyday, just a once in a while when im cooking ill fill a 1/4 cup half way with milk and let him go to town (he cries otherwise) Or maybe if im using butter and he sees it he cries till i let him see what it is and then won't stop crying till i let him l**k the knife/fork/spoon/whathaveyou clean. There was also one incident where i burnt an oreo cheesecake and let him scarf down however much of it he wanted once my bf had eaten what he'd wanted from it.

He has never gotten sick, never had any stomach problems that i know of.

I was just wondering is it really all that bad for him? I've had him for about two years now and he still cries for milk and butter (and sometimes cheese if hes in a weird mood), but if it really is bad for him then i will weather out the whining. Anyones input?

  1. The cheesecake was out of order, an adult cat can tolerate milk, i leave a bowl down all the time, but then i have 7 of them.

Kittens shouldn't have cows milk. And if he only licks the knife of butter, then that's fine, oh, and i have a few of my own cats who like cheese, they get a nibble once a week, just a taster and it shuts them up. They do put milk and cheese is some kitten dry food.

  2. Most cats are lactose intolerant but not 100% of cats so it sounds like your cat is one of the lucky ones. As a general rule though, cats and large quantities of dairy do not mix well. There is special milk for cats that is the best thing to give them.

  3. CATS ARE LACTOSE INTOLLERENT.....MEANING MILK WILL GIVE THEM THE s***s !!!

    AND BAD STOMACH PAINS

Sounds like he's the boss of the house if he cries till he gets what he wants..bit like a toddler having a tantrum :|

Look after your cat and feed it proper cat food with added veges..i think the occasional treat will be ok but don't ruin his teeth with more sweet stuff..it'll cost you and cause him pain in the long run..not to mention obesity !!!!

  4. Cows milk should not be given to cats and dogs. there are special formula available in the pet food section of supermarkets. However if your cat is use to cows milk and this is my opinion only I don't believe a little will do him any harm.If he shows any sign of diarrhea or vomiting cease giving him any at all. My cat hade his bowl of cows milk every day of his life and he lived until he was 15. Give him a dose of oil instead of butter though. This helps with fur balls

  5. No, cats stomachs are really not able to digest cow's milk easily. Even if they've shown no sign of getting sick, it can cause a calcium build up in their digestive and urinary tract.

A little bit of butter occasionally is ok, cause its mostly fat and will aid in clearing out hairballs, but no milk or cheese!
