Try taking off the metal case around the tip of the male antenna plug for the trunk connecting to the antenna housing and the same for the male antenna plug on the passenger side under the carpet. With the casing on, some have called it a bracket, there seems to be a gap or other prevention from the narrow tip at the end going into the female connection.
You can do this test if you want: Take of the plastic panel on the passenger side, pull back the carpet under the glove box, and the disconnected antenna wire might be apparent right away (the antenna connection is done in two pieces for some reason from the radio to the trunk). The female connecting plug was attached to the body using tape adhesed to some kind of pin. Unplug the antenna and then take the very tip of the male connection and tilt it into the inner casing of the female plug. You might get reception right away.
Those cases will come off if you pull the where the two sides meet. You don't need any tools to fix the antenna problem. No wirie cutting or wire modification, just take off the sleeves, casing, brackets, or whatever they called from the male end and it works.
