Hi, one of my back teeth is half chipped away and causing me a lot of pain. I want to either get it pulled out or get it filled. However, I am 14 weeks pregnant. To get either of these things done, does anyone know if I have to see a doctor first or if I can get either of these done while pregnant?? I am open to any suggestions or remidies. Please help!!!

  1. go to see your dentist they will do something about it. In the mean time rinse your mouth out with warm salt water

  2. When I was pregnant with each of my sons and was in any pain, to distract myself I knitted or crotcheted.  It served two purposes.  I was able to take my mind of the pain etc and I ended up donating what I made (usually a scarf) to someone who needed it more than me

  3. Go to the dentist to discuss your options.

  4. Definitely see your dentist, but make sure you tell him/her about your pregnancy. Being in pain and distressed will not help you or your baby. Congratulations by the way, hope everything goes well.

  5. Hi Im a dentist and if you give me more info ill try to help you.

    Is it only one tooth?

or do you have several dental problems?

    Where are you?

Im sure I will be able to assist you.

  6. i don't see how a chipped tooth is going to affect your baby, i would go see you're dentist

  7. You are almost in your second trimester. most dangers are over. Most dentist don't do elective treatment that may be able to wait till your pregnancy is over but they will do emergency treatment. If you are in pain you may have an infection and that does not need to wait. You have the safety of your baby to think about. You need to go to the dentist!!

  8. You don't need to go to the regular doctor first. Just tell your dentist that you are pregnant and he will make the necessary adjustments in your care.  You can absolutely have tooth care done while pregnant!

For the pain, Tylenol is safe for pregnancy.

  9. Definately see a dentist.  I had my wisdom teeth keep acting up during one of my pregnancies.  I took pain meds and antibiotics for them until after the baby was born, then had them pulled.  Back then they didn't want to pull them until after the pregnancy was over as anethesia can relax you into labor (or that's what I was told then)  Anyway, don't suffer, you've got a long way to go with the pregnancy and don't need extra pain or stress, see a dentist.

  10. if your tooth is causing you alot of pain it cannot be just filled it either needs a root canal or to be extracted. you can have those done while you are pregant, you will not beable to have Nitrous Oxide.( laughing gas) I would contact you obgyn to see what type of pain meds to take. DDS will give you anti-biotic afterwards.

  11. Yes you can have either of those procedure done while your prego. You cannot be under general anesthsia, but they can numb the area and pull the tooth or fill it... they will use an anesthetic that has no epinephrine so it won't harm the baby. The dental field has come a long was since some people were prego (some people that answered above). Go to your dentist and have it handled asap. If it gets infected, the infection could harm your baby. So get it taken care of asap.

    congrats on your pregnancy!

    :)
