  1. The longer AVG is on a machine the scan takes progressively longer too.  AVG still has its problems, many of which have stil yet to be resolved:

Up to V7.5 it was good, but has now slipped badly. I would recommend that you change it to Avast anti-virus 4 Home Free Edition, better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable:

  2. delete AVG download free Avast - end of problem plus you have a better AV.

  3. AVG sucks, get Ad-Aware SE Personal. It's free and much better. The fact of the matter is that something like Norton or McAfee will be faster, more efficient, and more secure than any freeware out there.

    Cheers

  4. Yes. since it does virus and spyware scanning it has far more to check.

  5. I've got the same and it was running for over two hours yesterday. I don't know if its normal but it doesn't normally take that long.

  6. it helps if you tell what kind of computer you got, speed and ram size would be nice and how big you disk and how full is it??

  7. I too have AVG Antivirus (the free version) and have it it for quiet some time now.  No, mine has never run a scan for 4 hours - it sounds like it's in a loop and after checking to see if it has any files quarantined, shut it down and restart it.

  8. Virus scans can take a long time, so this length of time is not out of the question.

  9. How did you get it free?

Only way is with a crack which is illegal, BUT WHO CARES! lol

Depending on how many files you have on your pc, especially games which take up file by file and it scans every single one, try changing the scan to once a week, it wont be needed any more than that unless you go on some dodgey websites.

    =]

  10. i think it a waste of time

  11. I suggest that you splurge and spend $50 on a good antivirus. I had AVG for a while and I had all kinds of problems.

  12. Well it depends on how much data you have on your system

The first scan usually scans the C: drive only.

The full system scan. Scans all the available drives on your computer.

  13. My avg ran really slow after I downloaded a huge file (since it had to check all the parts of that program).  If you've done this recently, it might need to check al the parts of new programs you've installed since it doesn't know if they're normal or not.  This can take much longer than usual.

  14. mine usually takes a long time, although at the moment scan starts to run ,then computer closes down and restarts. anyone else having this problem?
