  1. ask your lifters to both support you by the thigh area.. it's hard to get used to and get your balance sorted out.. but it's good in the end and stops allot of sore parts ;)

  2. A possibility is to work up your quads (the muscles on the front of your thighs) so you build a natural handle just above your kneecap.  I can't say how well the line out aids work, other than a few guys on my club tried them and didn't like them and went back to taping.  Working on your vertical jump height may help also, so your lifters only have to lift you less, and can rather catch you and boost you up.  Having your lifters hit the weights a bit more might help too, as well as getting your timing down with your thrower.  You shouldn't be in the air for more than 2-3 seconds in any given lineout from the time your feet leave the ground to the time you land, which means you shouldn't be lifted more than a minute or so in an entire game if you go up every lineout.

It's tough to change lifting styles, because many times the lifting style is a product of how the coach wants you to lift, but I don't suggest ever lifting by the shorts just for the fact that shorts slide and you lose a few inches from your jump because of it.  Our club does the "bicycle seat" lift in back and tunnel leg, just above the kneecap, which is very effective for us.  Good luck

  3. i've never had this problem so i'm not sure, but whatever you don't try to put up with it to be a man!!!!! that's just stupid!!!

  4. I've been a line out jumper off and on for several years now.  The simplest way I've found for support is to have the lifter who is behind you support only one thigh.  When I jump, the front lifter uses the bottom of my shorts, while the back lifter grabs my thigh in both hands.  It works quite well thus far, and give the jumper a surprising sense of security.  It also cuts down on getting my balls squished by having two lifters on the shorts.

I have never tried taping, as it looked like it would impede running too much.

    cheers,

    dave
