  1. All it matters is that you have A PASSPORT.The american embassy doesnt cares about your old one.

  2. Tubby said it best.

  3. Sorry, Daria's quite wrong.  Getting a visa is a matter of credibility.  To the consular officer, you may 1) have sold your previous visa'd passport; 2) be trying to hide something in your last passport 3) be an honest but irresponsible person -- why would they want to give a visa to someone who will lose it/allow it be be stolen?  Plus, can you say with certainty that someone didn't find it, and try to use it, and now it's your good name that's sullied?

So, it can definitely be a problem.  Some advice:  Be honest, maintain a good record from now on, and maybe produce the police report from when your reported it as lost.

    Good luck.

  4. it may look suspicious at first, that is the reality of the matter of a lost passport, it will definitely take longer to check your past records of traveling, and visas received, check to see if you overstayed anywhere, and things of that nature.

there is nothing you can do about it

unfortunately, except wait, answer questions honestly if asked,
