Ive moved into a property but have not signed a contract?

its a 6month contract, ive been living here for 2 months and want to move out. its a two month notice period. i havnt signed anything... can i just move out??? ...or is a verbal agreement binding?

please help

  1. if you didn't sign anything, they have no legal means to keep you there.

    verbal agreement means nothing.


  2. A verbal contract is not legally binding to either party.

    I would have thought it was your Landlords responsibility to obtain a signature from you before taking up the residence.

    Consequently you are under no obligation to give 2 Months notice of leaving.

    However the practicalities of getting your Deposit back if you paid one may be a sticking point - Your Landlord will probably make a song and dance about it - making sure any Utility bills are paid off etc - He/She may even want to withold a proportion due to the 'inconvenience' factor -Wear & Tear etc.

  3. Check the laws of your jurisdiction.  In some jurisdictions, a situation such as yours automatically makes it a month-to-month tenancy, and you have to give one month's notice.
