  1. Travel is great, just love it. It is a bug and over the years i have so many friends. Go for it!!!!

  2. yes , probably because you cant afford it or you like it in the uk

  3. To be abroad doesn't necessarily mean to go to a place where the same official language. You might as well visit countries where English is the second language spoken.

It is normal for businessmen to stay in abroad for months, but if you have a labour or you own a shop or a family, you are quite unlikely to be away for a longer time.

I know someone from Germany who hardly spoke any French but went to France to study medicine. Now french was easy to learn and is no longer a problem ;-)

  4. depends on your age for starters.

My mum is 62 and has only ever been to France. Has no desire to stretch her wings to holiday any further.

In today's climate so many seem to think nothing of flying far and going to unusual destinations.

  5. It is normal for you. Comparing your life with others is a common trap to fall into. If you had been to 220 countries you would still be normal as you are you first, traveller maybe 10th on the list.

  6. Not really...you should go abroad!!! There are always cheap flights on airlines like Ryanair or Easyjet...see the world!!

  7. I was 22 the first time I went out of England.  My mum was 60 went she first travelled abroad.  My dad never travelled.  I think that is a great shame.

  8. Not to worry.

    I was 87 before I left Staines.

  9. My holidays were always spent in Swanage Dorset, and my first holiday abroad was after my husband and I divorced I was 50, since then I have been;

    Crete twice.

    Zante.

      Kos.

      Rhodes.

      Egypt.

      Goa twice.

Went on a Cruise last year.

We are going to Turkey and Mexico this year and have just booked to go to Gambia next March.

I will be 56 in July so I have made up for it, in fact my ex-husband thinks I must have won the lottery.

  10. There is no normal or abnormal when it comes to going abroad. My mom and dad never left the UK for a holiday mainly because they said they wouldn't understand the money and dad said he wouldn't like the food. How he knew that I've no idea! But they had a holiday every year and when I was a child it was usually at the seaside. But then, in those days people didn't "go abroad" unless they were well off - and we weren't.  I first went abroad for free - at the invitation of the Royal Air Force who saw fit to send me to Germany for 15 months as a radar expert. I learned reasonable conversational German while I was there and still remember enough to use in German speaking countries.  After finishing my education at college I used to go with a group of friends in a VW caravanette and tents camping all over Europe - great fun and dead cheap.  Since then I have tried to go abroad at least once a year, along with my wife.

However, my brother had never been abroad until he went with us to Brittany for a short break when he was aged  64 and his only visits abroad since have been with others, usually us!

So, no, it's not abnormal. A good holiday doesn't really depend on where you go it's about who you're with and what you do while you're on holiday. Our last break was to Torquay and, altho' it's called "The English Riviera" it's still in Devon!!

  11. yes, it's very normal....

if you want to go, save up some money and find some friends to travel with.....always cheaper is a group for hostels to hotels!

  12. Yes, most of the world's population has never been abroad.  The USA particularly has a very low proportion of population with passports.  Isolated countries such as Australia, however,  have larger proportions of their population (or 20 million) travel abroad.

When you save the money up, you should go abroad to broaden your perspectives of the world!! Good luck!

  13. If you've been to Bradford ? that counts as being abroad.

  14. I was 22 before I went abroad, and then I went to live in Germany.

  15. It's probably not common in Europe - but nor have I LOL.

I understand that lots of Americans haven't either...

  16. yep thats normal, don't worry about it,you will get chance at some point to go abroad!!
