  1. There are two methods you can use: one is spot treatment and the other is a large scale yard treatment.

A spot treatment is the most time consuming and probably least effective if you have a lot of bindweed in your yard. Spot treatment is simply using a spray solution weed killer sprayed directly to the the bindweed.

The large scale treatment is to use a dry chemical application ot your whole yard. Products such as Scotts weed and feed are a great solution.

These products are usually dry pellets that need to be spread evenly across your yard. It is best to mow your lawn first. Then water it so that it is open to receiving nutrients and chemicals, then spread the weed and feed with a telegraph spreader.

For small yards a simple hand held telegraph seeder will do the trick, but for large yards you will need a push seeder with a large bin to hold lots of weed and feed.

These are some of the better supplies that you can use.

  2. Don't treat you WHOLE yard with a weed' n' feed product- a waste.  This other dude seems to think that the chemicals work from within the soil. Well, they don't and this is why we are hearing reports of homeowners polluting our oceans and streams ("water your lawn to "open it up" for nutrients".)  Ha!

These are NOT pellets they are very light granules that need to be applied to a wet lawn in order to become effective- AT ALL (chemical translocates through the leaves)

Go buy a spray bottle of material that controls broadleaved weeds and "spot spray" them.

Don't mow your lawn first, either!  Let it stay long through the treatment as to allow as much weedy-surface area to come in contact with the material.
