I went for an interview for a call centre in, june and i was succesful, but they hadnt any start dates for me. So i waited and waited and had no word, so i rang the employment agency, and they said they werent dealing with that call centre anymore. So i rang and applied directly witjh the call centre, so ive to go for an interview tomorrow with the same place, so any tips would be great!, also they said, to dress smart, so would a white shirt, black trousers/pants and shoes do?, my mum said to wear a tie aswell, but i dont really want to.

Would that be alright?

Thanks!

  1. Wear a tie Matt, the people on answers are not employers by the sound of it. No matter what job you apply for your employers will want to see you looking smart. A sloppy look means a sloppy mind. Clean shoes please, firm handshake, good eye contact, lots of smiles. stress that you enjoy working with the general public, and are quick a learning new tasks.

    Good Luck.

  2. I agree with Cornish Guy for the same reasons.

Another tip:  Call centres have high turnover and so really like to see people who actively want to work for them instead of just seeing it as another job that they drift into (and out of a few months later).  Sounds like you have put some effort into getting this far that shows unusual interest in their company - they will like that so make sure that you tell them. They will ask a question like 'why do you want to work for them?' - prepare a good answer and mention it there.  Otherwise ask a question at the end like ' I originally applied through xx agency but they say they are not working with you anymore?. I was really disappointed that they didnt put my name forward because I was really interested to work for you.'

  3. If the shirt is nice enough to stand out by itsself then you won't need the tie.  However, I think you should try it on with a tie and see how it looks.  If you like it better with the tie off, then don't wear it.

Congratulations on landing the interview!  A lot of places will drag you through the first interview and not call you to see if you will call them and if you are really interested in working for the company.

As for advice, the most valuable piece of information that I have learned about interviews is to not talk too much.  Some people nervously chatter when they get nervous and I am one of them.  If you find yourself off on a  tangent, finish the story and try not to steer too far away from the subject again.

  4. Always remember, preparation always pays off. Both the face-to-face and phone interviews are equally important and deal-killer at the same time. There is a general misconception that phone interviews are less formal than face-to-face interviews, but in fact that is ...

  5. Below are 10 helpful tips for helping you make a lasting and positive first impression.

    1. Know your potential employer. Different work settings have different dress styles.

    2. Stick to neutral colors. You can’t go wrong with navy blue, gray, tan, beige or even burgundy. Avoid screaming colors like orange, yellow and red.

    3. Use conservative hairstyles and nail lengths.

    4. Ladies consider wearing stockings/pantyhose if you are wearing a dress or skirt-suit. Gentlemen please wear socks with your dress shoes.

    5. Pay to have your interview outfit professionally dry-cleaned. The money spent will pay for itself several times over once you land the job.

    6. Look at your interview outfit closely for any loose threads, tears, missing buttons or broken zippers. Have them repaired professionally if necessary.

    7. Try on your interview outfit well in advance to see if it still fits. An improperly fitting outfit wont speak well of your concern about looking your best.

    8. Walk around inside the house wearing your interview suit for at least thirty minutes. This will help to minimize awkwardness so that you can feel comfortable in your outfit during the interview.

    9. Wear the right shoes. Men should stick to dark color traditional style dress shoes. Women have a wider array including pumps, flats and dress loafers.

    10. Watch the jewelry, less is more.
